How will you know if you need emergency dental care?
Not all dental issues are emergencies, but some situations require immediate attention. Ask yourself the following questions to help determine whether you need urgent care:
- Are you experiencing severe pain? Acute pain often signals a dental emergency.
- Did you lose a tooth? Immediate treatment may save it.
- Are you showing signs of infection? If you notice swelling, fever, or knots in your gums or around your face, you may have a serious infection requiring urgent care.
- Are you experiencing bleeding in the mouth? Uncontrolled bleeding is another indication of a dental emergency.
- Any dental issue that needs immediate attention to alleviate pain, save a tooth, or stop bleeding should be considered an emergency.
If you’re experiencing any of the above, call us right away at (450) 812-6888 (Brossard) or (514) 934-0404 (Montréal), and we’ll assist you.

How to deal with common dental emergencies?
For a knocked-out permanent tooth, keep it moist. You can place it in between your cheek and gums or in a cup of milk. Get to our clinic immediately.
For a baby tooth, keep it moist and get to a dentist. If it’s an adult tooth, follow the instructions above.
Rinse your mouth with warm water and apply cold compresses to reduce swelling. Visit your dentist as soon as possible.
Rinse with warm water and gently floss to remove any trapped food. Avoid putting aspirin on the affected tooth as it can burn the gum tissue. If pain persists, contact us.
Apply cold compresses to manage swelling and visit the emergency department of a hospital immediately.
Gently try to remove the object using dental floss. Avoid using sharp instruments. If you can’t remove it, seek dental care.
A dental emergency includes severe pain, a knocked-out tooth, signs of infection (such as swelling), excessive bleeding, a broken or chipped tooth, lost fillings, or damaged dental work like veneers or crowns.
Rinse your mouth with warm water to clean it. Use dental floss to remove any food between your teeth. Avoid placing aspirin on the tooth or gums. If pain persists, contact your dentist for further care.
How Can I Avoid a Dental Emergency?
While accidents happen, you can take some simple steps to minimize your risk:
- Wear a mouthguard during sports or recreational activities to protect your teeth.
- Avoid hard foods or candies that can crack your teeth.
- Use scissors, never your teeth, to cut things.
- Are you experiencing bleeding in the mouth? Uncontrolled bleeding is another indication of a dental emergency.
